Feb 15, 2018 - I mean if you want people to like you, sure. But if you want to be a good comedian, I don't think so. Ellen is never going to be on anyone's top 10 list. She isn't a comedian anymore really even, but a talk show host so ofc she has to play it safe and try to be as inoffensive and superficial as possible.

Personally I think that the job of a comedian, or rather it's where the best comedy comes from, is to illuminate the truth in a way that makes people laugh in order to disarm. It's why great comedians often sound like philosophers, you think that what they say makes a lot of sense, but usually it's about stuff that most of us would admit it even consider if said in a serious way. The fact that it's said in a funny way disarms and let's us look at things without the baggage. Comedians can offer social criticism that no-one else can. It's also why great comedians tend to be depressed, because they see the world how it really.
